Dan Olin pitched a complete-game eight-hitter and the Weston High baseball team plated three runs on wild pitches as the Trojans defeated Bunnell 4-2 on Saturday in a Class L state tournament play-in game at home. The 32nd-seeded Trojans (9-12) advanced to Tuesday’s first round, when they play at top-seeded Windsor (18-2). Weston boys track fourth at SWC championships

The Weston High boys track and field team finished in fourth place at the SWC championships on Wednesday. “The team came ready to compete and gave their best performance of the season,” said coach Lloyd Weinstein. The Trojans managed two wins, with Tim Lautenbach capturing the 1600 meters in 4:34.46 and the 4×800 relay team of Lautenbach, Tobey Bill, Pascal Hawkins and Zach Yung winning in 8;13.09. The Weston boys track and field team wrapped up the Patriot Division of the South-West Conference with a relatively easy win over Stratford 109-41 last Thursday. The Trojans finished the regular season with an 8-3 record, and were undefeated in the Patriot division at 5-0. Sam Chicha continued his fine season by capturing the high jump in a personal best of 6’1” and also won the long jump at 19’11”. The South-West Conference playoffs have been pushed back to next week, due to this recent weather and school closings. The updated schedule is: BOYS LACROSSE The boys lacrosse quarterfinals will now take place next Tuesday. Weston will host Masuk at 7. Joel Barlow will host New Milford at 4:30. The semifinals are set for Wednesday at the home of the higher seed, and the finals are Friday, May 25, at 7 at New Milford High School. After the first three matches had been completed, the Weston High girls tennis team held a 3-0 lead over Joel Barlow in Thursday’s South-West Conference championship and seemed on its way to a comfortable win. The Redding-based Aspetuck Valley Rugby Club varsity team has achieved a program milestone as the team is making its first-ever appearance at the National High School Rugby Championships this week in Kansas City, Mo. Aspetuck is one of only 24 schools or clubs in the country to receive an invitation to the tournament, which takes place May 17-19. Gymnastics: Umhoefer wins all-around title at regionals

Ashley Umhoefer of Weston was the all-around champion in her age division at the 2018 YMCA Northeast Regional Championships held May 11-13 in Augusta, Maine. Competing in the Level 6, Ages 9-11 division, she took home the first-place all-around trophy along with the title of vault champion (9.325). She was also second on bars (9.4) and third on beam (9.4), and scored 9.2 on floor. Her performance helped the Wilton Y gymnastics Level 6 squad finish fourth out of 21 teams at the meet.

The Weston High boys lacrosse and girls golf teams suffered losses on Monday.
