Aerin Young medals three times at national snowboarding championships


A love of snowboarding has taken Aerin Young to the top levels of the national scene, and the Redding resident intends to expand her horizons in coming years. The Weston High boys tennis team continued to dominate its South-West Conference competition with a 7-0 win over Newtown on Tuesday at home. Barlow swimming: Falcons eighth at SWC finals

The top South-West Conference swimmers were in the Masuk High pool for Saturday’s championship meet, and the high level of competition brought out the best in the athletes, including Joel Barlow’s participants. The Falcons placed eighth as a team with 155 points, just three behind seventh-place Bethel. Pomperaug of Southbury was first with a score of 546 and Weston placed second with 452. Andrew Yu came in third in the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:01.06, and gave the Falcons a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:03.06. Basketball: Weston’s Orefice hits 1,000 points as a junior

Scoring 1,000 points in your high school career is a rarity. But to do it in less than three years is truly special. Katie Orefice accomplished that milestone Tuesday night, in the Weston High girls basketball team’s 60-50 loss at Pomperaug. Horn gets up to speed on the ice

When Ben Horn is on the ice, he can usually be found trying to skate his fastest. The 10-year-old Weston resident, who is already an accomplished speedskater, is always trying to improve his times. Every Sunday during the season he skates with the Connecticut Speedskating Club at the Connecticut Sports Center in Shelton. Currently at about 20 members, the club also has skaters from New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Skaters range from age 7 to 70. Ben has been speedskating for the past three years.
