The Weston High girls soccer team blanked visiting New Milford, 4-0, on Monday in a South-West Conference matchup. Aiden Kreitler, Natalie Haythorne, Sadie Rudolph and Katie Orefice scored the goals for the Trojans (4-0-1). Ava Zielinski, Nicky Dalrymple, Krissy Krigsman and Sadie Rudolph had the assists. Bridget Angus had six saves to record the shutout.
The Weston High girls volleyball team beat Pomperaug 3-1 (25-17, 25-10, 14-25, 25-23) on Monday in Southbury in a South-West Conference matchup. With the win, the Trojans broke a three-game losing streak. Kate Anderson and Taryn Seigel had five kills apiece, while Anderson had four blocks and Seigel added four digs. Grace Donnelly had eight aces and two digs. Prior to that, Weston dropped a 3-0 (9-25, 16-25, 13-25) sweep to Joel Barlow in Redding on Friday night. Anderson had four kills and Seigel had two kills. Jordan Baisley notched eight digs.
The Joel Barlow boys soccer team slammed host New Fairfield, 5-0, to improve to 3-0 overall. Barlow quickly made their intentions clear by taking the lead in the fourth minute, when Jack Warren threaded a slide-rule pass through New Fairfield’s defense to allow Ben Goodacre to side foot home. However, the Rebels came very close to leveling three minutes later, when the rain-soaked, slippery ball escaped keeper John Hoeing’s grasp but, fortunately, Carl Zuanelli was perfectly placed to clear off the line. Joel Barlow High’s girls volleyball team defeated host Masuk of Monroe in four sets when the South-West Conference rivals met on Monday night. The Falcons won 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13. Barlow improved to 4-0 to begin the season, actually losing its only set thus far. Masuk fell to 2-3 overall. Kiara Robichaud compiled 21 kills. Julia Mullin had 10 kills and four aces. The Weston High boys soccer team shut out New Milford High, 2-0, in a South-West Conference matchup on Monday afternoon. Senior captain Ryan Werner scored the opener for the Trojans in the 31st minute, with an assist from senior Bruno Navaresse. Navaresse then netted a goal in the 75th minute, assisted by senior Tony Fontana. Weston senior captain Matt Egan made six saves in net. The Trojans improved to 4-0-0 overall.
The Weston High football team used splash plays, one to close out the first half and another to open the second, to fuel its 35-7 victory over visiting Jonathan Law on Friday night. The Joel Barlow High boys defeated Kolbe Cathedral, 13-0, in a South-West Conference matchup, with Pablo Correa-Ramirez scoring four goals. Given Barlow’s complete domination of the encounter, the main surprise was that it took a quarter of the game to notch the first goal, after a number of early chances by Ben Goodacre, Jack Warren and Pablo Correa-Ramirez. The Weston High boys soccer team remained unbeaten with a 4-1 victory over Bethel High. Mason Asphar, David Tamburri, Henry Cohen and Matt Scott scored the goals for Weston (3-0), while Bethel’s Bryan Osebio converted a penalty for the Wildcats’ lone tally. Senior keeper Matt Egan made five saves, as the Trojans outshot Bethel, 13-6.
Weston High’s field hockey team earned its second tie in as many contests to begin the season, finishing in a 1-1 deadlock with visiting Masuk of Monroe, on Wednesday night. Masuk stands at 0-2-1. Mariel Zech was assisted by Emma Nelson just 1:35 into the second half. After Masuk evened the score, on a goal by Bella Migliaro that was assisted by Emily Lange, the Panthers continued to create scoring chances but were thwarted by Weston’s defense and goaltender Carlyn Zech. Weston’s goalie stopped seven shots, including a trio during the 10-minute 7 on 7 overtime period. Masuk goaltender Lauren Kulinski made five saves.
