Boys tennis: Inaugural Weston High Tennis Open set for Aug. 23

August is not a month typically associated with high-school tennis in Connecticut. Recent Weston High graduate Stephen Blinder is looking to change that, while also raising money for a worthy cause. Blinder, a former member of the Trojans’ boys tennis team, is organizing the inaugural Weston High School Tennis Open, set to run Aug. 23-26 at the Weston High hard courts, for incoming and current high-school age boys. The single-elimination tournament entry fee is $30 and proceeds will benefit Norwalk Grassroots Tennis & Education. Adult Soccer: WASL playoffs kicking off

Week 6 of the Weston Adult Soccer League recently completed play. The playoffs begin tonight, with Team Pires facing Team Shrager at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, Team Bear faces Team Dacey. All games are played at Weston High School. Tennis: Weston Winners capture state title

The Weston Winners, of the Weston Racquet Club, won the Advanced USTA Junior Team Tennis 12U state title. The tournament was originally scheduled to be played outdoors at Yale but due to weather was relocated to Tennis and Fitness Center of Rocky Hill. There were 50 teams total in thevdivision for the season and the top 6 were at this tournament. Weston went undefeated.

Junior Legion: Bethel edges Wilton in extra innings

The Bethel Admirals stayed alive in the American Legion Junior 17U state tournament on Friday night, rallying for a walk-off 4-3 win over Wilton in eight innings at Hunt Field. Nicholas Vieira won it for Bethel (25-2) in the bottom of the eighth, lining a single to center off of Wilton reliever Aidan Kyle. Joshua Taylor, who led off the eighth with a towering double to right field, scored the game-winning run. Adult Soccer: High-scoring draw kicks off Week 5 in WASL

On Monday, July 16, Team Pires and Team Clemens kicked off Week 5 of the Weston Adult Soccer League with a 4-4 draw. Thomas Cools opened the scoring for Team Pires. After some deft footwork outside the box, he was able to find the smallest opening and shot across the goal to the opposite side netting. Not five minutes later, Filipe Couto would answer. On Monday, July 9, Week 4 of the Weston Adult Soccer League season kicked off with a battle between Team Britz and subLIME. Weston’s 12 year old baseball team battled to the finish but came up just short in a 5-4 outcome against Milford in Sectional Tournament round-robin action at Stamford’s Springdale Park on Friday night. Milford advances to Saturday’s championship game against Fairfield American at 2:30. Weston’s great run is over. “I couldn’t be prouder of these guys. We lost a tough game. Little League: Fairfield American edges Weston in opener

The Fairfield American Little League All-Stars defeated Weston, 1-0, on Wednesday night at Scalzi Park in Stamford. Weston will face Lou Gehrig of Milford in its next Section I game on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Springdale Little League in Stamford. Fairfield American takes on Lou Gehrig tonight at 7 at Scalzi. The Section I championship is set for Saturday night at 7 at Springdale.

Little League: Weston gives back

The Weston 12U Little League team giving back as part of their success this summer.  For every home run the team hits, the team families will be donating a minimum of $100 to the A.J.
