Soccer: Trojans hold Alumni Game

The Weston High School boys soccer team held its annual Alumni Game on Sunday night. After a 2-2 tie in regulation, the Alumni won 10-9 in penalty kicks. Peter Scher converted the winning penalty for the Alumni, while keeper Alex Toutoungi made three shootout saves. The first alumni goal was scored by Jenson Frost, assisted by Scher, while Billy Marcellus netted the equalizer for the Alumni. Weston High’s goals were scored by senior Matt Scott and senior Tobey Bill, assisted by Scott. Keeper Matt Egan, a senior co-captain, saved two penalties.

Soccer: Team Dacey wins WASL final in kicks

Just enough. Team Dacey only won two games all season, which was just enough to make playoffs. It lost more games, than the rest of the three-semi-finalists combined, which was just enough to keep morale high. It took the undefeated Team Bear to penalties and won, which was just enough to get to the final. Then in the final, Team Dacey took the most technically-gifted squad, including MVP Tom Cools, to penalties and beat them, which was just enough to become WASL summer champions. Adult Soccer: High-scoring draw kicks off Week 5 in WASL

On Monday, July 16, Team Pires and Team Clemens kicked off Week 5 of the Weston Adult Soccer League with a 4-4 draw. Thomas Cools opened the scoring for Team Pires. After some deft footwork outside the box, he was able to find the smallest opening and shot across the goal to the opposite side netting. Not five minutes later, Filipe Couto would answer. Results from the opening day of the Weston Adult Soccer League last Saturday: Team Dacey 3, Team Britz 1 The game started off slow with both teams trying to shake off their winter rust and attempting to get accustomed to new teammates. After a long, cold winter for all, local soccer players are ready to gun for glory as the Weston Adult Soccer League gears up for a new season. On Saturday, May 26, before the sun peeked over the horizon, eight hearty souls with 35 pounds of “sticks” on their backs embarked on a 22.5-mile journey through the rolling hills of Redding. Just shy of two years ago, Weston Parks and Recreation brought in a new program director to supplant a position that had been heralded for more than 40 years by Bill Schaeffer.
