Sylvia W. Marcus, age 93, formerly of Norwalk, Connecticut, died on Friday, September 21, 2012, at Weinberg Village in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the beloved wife of the late Jeremy Marcus, former Deputy Clerk Norwalk Superior Court. Mrs. Marcus was born in Norwich, Connecticut on August 31, 1919, the daughter of the late Zalman and Annie Wener. During the Depression, she moved from Norwich, where she had attended the Norwich Free Academy, to New York City, where she attended Washington Irving High School. Alex Alvarez of Trumbull died Sept. 18, 2012. He was 31. He was born in Danbury to Cristobal Alvarez Sr. and Sally Gavett-Alvarez. After graduating from Trumbull High School in 1999, Mr. Alvarez attended Central Connecticut State University. Ms. Bender was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1922, in Hillsdale, N.J., daughter of the late Walter Higinson and the late Margaret (Brogeler) Higinson. She is survived by her four children, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Born in 1926 to Norwegian immigrant parents in Brooklyn, N.Y., Ms. Brenner moved to Manhattan as a young woman. There she met her first husband, photographer/filmmaker Roy Pinney.
